Newey & Eyre has seen growing demand for energy efficient lighting products following July’s Live Earth series of concerts which, broadcast to a worldwide audience of two billion, raised awareness of global warming and environmental issues. In particular, the company has witnessed a substantial increase in sales of standard compact fluorescents, its most popular type of energy-saving lamp.
In July 2007 sales of Newey & Eyre’s energy efficient lighting products rocketed by 26%, a massive increase compared to the previous month which saw growth of 10%, and over a quarter more than the same period last year.
Steve Havell, product manager of Newey & Eyre’s lighting and lamps division, believes this clearly indicates the impact of the July event on consumer demand. “With more and more people adopting a greener approach, both at home and in the workplace, we have experienced a steady rise in sales of energy efficient lighting products over the past year. However, July’s figures indicate exceptional growth and the Live Earth event and surrounding publicity this summer has undoubtedly played a part in this.
“With energy efficiency still at the top of the public agenda, the market demand in this area shows no sign of stopping. As a result, we are continually looking to extend our array of products in this category and recently launched the Bright Green Choice. This nationwide initiative aims to promote the benefits of going green, as part of our ongoing commitment to offer installers and contractors one of the biggest green choices on the market.”
Newey & Eyre has 175 branches throughout the UK. With over 20,000 product lines in stock at any one time, it holds more major brands than any other electrical wholesaler.
