Cast iron technology leader Saint-Gobain PAM UK has reported overwhelming levels of interest in its highly innovative range of GripTopTM access covers (manhole covers) from the Traffex 2009 Show at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre.
The company showcased the GripTopTM line-up, launched last year, which uniquely features an aggregate treated surface to reduce the risk of skidding, by offering greater friction to wheels – particularly those of cycles and motorcycles – and thus the risk of costly litigation and financial settlements as a result of deaths or injuries from skid-related accidents.
The range was developed by Saint-Gobain PAM UK as a direct response to the problem of metal access covers worn smooth by decades of traffic. It is of particular benefit in areas subject to heavy traffic where bends, roundabouts, gradients and traffic lights encourage acceleration and deceleration and the risk of skidding is thus increased.
The GripTopTM range has been extensively trialled by Bristol City Council around the city centre’s new Broadmead development, where it has been warmly welcomed by both local motorcyclists’ and cyclists’ groups.
Visitors to the stand included representatives from local authorities, police forces, utilities and organisations involved in the building and maintenance of highways.
Daniel Débois of Saint-Gobain PAM UK explained: “Many of the visitors to the stand were already aware of the GripTopTM range and were keen to see the product for themselves. All of the visitors were highly impressed by the quality and design of the product and we are confident of receiving a number of major orders in the near future.
